Diagnostic imaging

If you have any questions or would like to refer a case please email our Berkeley House practice at referrals@severnvets.co.uk or call us on 01905 756156.

Our imaging service is led by James Tolkien (BVetMed (Hons) BSc (Hons) PGCert (DI) MRCVS), and is always used in conjunction with our surgery and internal medicine clinicians. We are also able to offer outpatient CT scans.

To aid us in our investigations we have the follow state of the art equipment, allowing us to perform:

  • Detailed abdominal and thoracic ultrasound, including assessing the liver, gallbladder, stomach, pancreas, spleen, kidneys, adrenals, small and large intestines and the urogenital tract.
  • Detailed echocardiography. See our cardiology service section for more information.
  • Ultrasound-guided biopsies.
  • Gastroscopy for examining the stomach and part of the small intestine in cases of chronic vomiting or suspected foreign bodies.
  • Colonoscopy to examine the large intestine and rectum.
  • Rhinoscopy allows investigation and biopsy of the nose in cases of nasal discharge or other upper respiratory tract issues. This may be combined with CT in suitable cases.
  • Cystoscopy in female dogs allows us to visualise and biopsy bladder lesions or investigate suspected cases of ectopic ureters.
  • Video otoscopy allows excellent visualisation of ear canals and tympanic membranes in cases of chronic ear disease or foreign bodies.
  • Arthroscopy for investigating and potential treating disease in the larger joints of dogs.
  • Laparoscopy for ovariectomy, abdominal biopsies, cryptorchid surgery and assisted gastropexy.
  • An onsite CT scanner.
